COVID-19 contact tracing functionality will be made available on Android via Google Play Services
Tuesday, April 14, 2020
As Apple and Google are developing new contact tracing system using Bluetooth technology to control the spread of Coronavirus pandemic, we now hear from company representatives that Android will use Google Play Services to get contact tracing capabilities to the users without a full OS update. This should help older models that no longer receive OS updates gain the upcoming functionality from Google. The new feature will be available to all devices running Android's version 6.0 Marshmallow and newer.
